Kritieke Zero-days en Exploitatie

CISA heeft vandaag een urgente waarschuwing afgegeven over een actief misbruikte Linux-kernel zero-day (CVE-2024-1086, Use-After-Free in netfilter: nf_tables). Deze kwetsbaarheid wordt ingezet voor privilege-escalatie op onvoldoende gepatchte Linux-servers, met ransomware als einddoel. Advies: directe upgrade naar kernelversie 6.1.77 of later voor alle getroffen distributies.[2]
Microsoft heeft recent zes zero-day kwetsbaarheden gepatcht in haar oktober updatecyclus; opvallend zijn CVE-2025-24990 (Windows Agere Modem Driver) en CVE-2025-59230 (Windows Remote Access Connection Manager), beide geclassificeerd als elevation-of-privilege flaws en inmiddels toegevoegd aan de CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog. Deadline voor patching: uiterlijk 4 november.[5]
Cisco heeft drie zero-day exploits in haar Secure Firewall/vpn-software publiek gemeld (CVE-2025-20333/-20362/-20363), geobserveerd in state-sponsored APT-campagnes sinds mei 2025. Voor CVE-2025-20362/-20363 is geen authenticatie vereist; deze kwetsbaarheden worden structureel ingezet door de UAT4356/Storm-1849 groep (China), en bieden persistentie na herstart en firmware-updates. CISA-directive ED 25-03 adviseert directe mitigatie waar mogelijk.[3]

High-impact Datalekken en Ransomware

Vandaag maakt Akira ransomwaregroep aanspraak op 23GB aan gestolen data van Apache OpenOffice: de Apache Software Foundation heeft het incident nog niet bevestigd, maar externe ransomwarebron-analyses tonen uitgebreide datadiefstal. MITRE Mapping in onderhandeling, slachtoffers worden nog geïnventariseerd.[4]
Kaiser Permanente rapporteert een data-incident waarbij e-mailservers illegaal zijn benaderd; >40.000 personen mogelijk getroffen. Dit betreft een in september gepleegde aanval, vandaag officieel gecommuniceerd conform VS-wetgeving.[1]

Actieve APT-campagnes

Earth Kurma (Asiatische APT-groep) voert nog altijd aanvallen uit op overheids- en telecomorganisaties in Zuid-Oost Azië met geavanceerde kernel-rootkits en cloud-gebaseerde data-exfiltratie. Persistentie en datatoegangsduur zijn aanzienlijk, detectie en hunting-opties zijn beschikbaar via Trend Micro’s threat intelligence modules.[6]
Russische APT-groepen intensiveren structureel hun aanvallen op Oekraïne en de EU, met wiper-malware en zero-day exploitatie als hoofdinstrument. De focus ligt momenteel op wiretap-systemen bij telecomorganisaties en kritieke infrastructuur.[7]

CISA en diverse internationale toezichthouders wijzen vandaag op de urgentie van patchmanagement en het structureren van zero-day response-processen i.v.m. het exploderende aantal ransomware- en APT-campagnes, met directe impact op GDPR/NIS2 en sectorale compliance-eisen.[2][3]
